ATTENTION PARENTS:
For the 2012 - 2013 school year, both the kindergarten and 1st grade teachers request a $50 supply donation. However, if you prefer to purchase your own supplies, a supply list can be provided through the school.

Kindergarten and 1st grade Supply Donation
Message from the Principal
May 25, 2012
Dear Parents,
We have had a wonderful school year and are already making plans for next fall. I’d like to share a few exciting things happening at R. L. Young next year.
· Our school system will be participating in the SACS Accreditation Process for the renewal of our certification. If you have not taken the parent survey, we would really appreciate your input. Just visit this link:
You can also access this link by visiting the school blog and click on the left hand side.
· Supply lists are included in the report cards on the back of this letter, but can also be accessed on the internet later this summer. Just look on the school blog: http://www.rlyoung.blogspot.com/. While you are logged on, check out the posts about coming attractions, announcements, and other information for parents. You will hear it FIRST on the blog. You can also become a member of the R. L. Young Facebook page entitled “HOW MANY PEOPLE LOVE RLYOUNG”.
· Class rolls will be posted by August 6th on the front doors of the main building. No requests or homeroom changes will be made. We are blessed with an excellent, experienced faculty and your child will be well served no matter what teacher they are assigned. You child’s new teacher will either call or mail you an invitation to attend our annual MEET and GREET.
· R. L. Young’s MEET & GREET will be held on Thursday, August 16th. Each grade level will have a special meeting time. Prior to the grade level meetings, the principal will be hosting a gathering to share Title I information from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. Door prizes will be available.
· During our MEET AND GREET, plan to join our very active PTO for only $5 per family. While you are joining PTO in the lunchroom, stop by to pay lunch money so that your child will be ready to go! The new school t-shirt orders will be available.
The faculty, staff, and I encourage you to let your child to take advantage of FREE access to STUDY ISLAND , a website which covers your child’s current grade reading and math skills. It’s learning and fun all rolled into one! Just visit www.studyisland.com and use the same password and login from this school year. If your child is unable to remember their password, please call the school and we can help.

Graduation is Almost Here!
It is hard to believe that this school year is almost over. It has been a very productive and enjoyable year. We want to thank all the parents for being so supportive throughout the year and helping make this a great year for the students and the teachers. Kindergarten graduation has been scheduled for Monday, May 21st at 9:00 in the school's auditorium. The students will need to report to their classroom at 8:00 as they normally do. The children will be wearing their graduation t-shirt (that has been previously purchased) and something blue jean on the bottom (shorts, skorts, capri pants, pants, etc). The t-shirt will be sent home the week before graduation.

February and March Good Citizens
Congratulations to the kindergarten Good Citizens. In February, Mrs. Liner's Good Citizen was Alix G., and Mrs. Nabors' was Lauryn J. During the month of March, Connor R. was chosen from Mrs. Nabors' class, and Taquerious L. was the Good Citizen from Mrs. Liner's room. We are proud of all four of these students!

Thing 1, Thing 2, Thing 18?
To conclude our week long Dr. Seuss celebration, our kindergarten students were transformed into characters straight from a Dr. Seuss book. Here you will find Thing 1, Thing 2, and many more Things! Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!
Oh! The Places You Will Go!
On Thursday, March 1st, the kindergarten students read the Dr. Seuss book, Oh! The Places You Will Go. Each student was asked to wear a shirt from a place they have traveled. We had shirts from the beach, the pumpkin patch, the circus, Tennessee, Disney World, and many more! The more places you go, the more things you know!
